Vision

My vision is what I would like to see for the future of America. It may not be easily attainable, but is important that I consider each decision I make in terms of how it will advance or detract from the realization of my vision.

When I think of America's future, I see a country where:
  • The economy is thriving, but the quality of life is also high. Family and friends have time together to enjoy life. People have time to smell the roses. Meaningful jobs are available to all and all types of work are respected.

  • All children get a basic education, which teaches them how to be productive citizens. Children are able to attend their school of choice, limited only by ability. Financial position or geographic location does not restrict a child from attending a particular grade school, high school, or university. Training programs are available for those who prefer a trade. Those that choose a trade are respected for their choice.

  • Our American identity is restored. Our culture includes the best aspects of all of the cultures brought to these shores by our immigrants. We embrace individuality but we do not feel the need to defend people because of their culture, country of origin, race, religion, or any other personal preference or characteristic. People respect one another. The police force is substantially reduced because crime is a thing of the past or such a minor item that it does not require a large police presence.

  • We have learned to become energy efficient and independent. Reliance on fossil fuels is a thing of the past. New technologies using hydropower, nuclear power, and solar power have been developed and provide much of our energy. The few fossil fuel plants left are clean, efficient, and primarily coal fired.

  • Electric cars are prevalent because extremely efficient batteries have been developed that can store enough energy for a car to run 300 miles at 70 miles per hour. Mass transportation is pervasive in all urban and suburban areas with a hub spoke system to get people from stations with parking lots to the central hubs where everything is interconnected. Trains and buses run at a minimum of every ½ hour on time with digital signals telling riders when the next one will come. All forms of transportation are coordinated. Central hubs are connected to airports and major cross-country train lines. Trains run at over 150 miles per hour, making a typical trip between New York and Washington in less than 2 hours. Airplanes will usually fly the longer distances or to areas without rail service. All forms of transportation will be clean and safe. Airport delays will be a thing of the past because the FAA will have an updated flight control system.

  • Health care is totally reformed. Individuals have a choice of multiple health plans and are not restricted by where they live. All plans are transportable and paid for before taxes and are not dependent upon employment. These plans are so effective that people opt out of Medicare and stay with the plan they had when they were young. Plans are the "whole life" type, in which a person builds up equity or seniority in the plan when they are young and not using much health care so that, when they are old and have higher costs, their premiums will stay affordable.

  • We are at peace with the world, but we still carry a big stick. America has once again gained the respect of all other countries and they want to emulate our system. Petty dictators, if they do spring up, are dealt with immediately and effectively.

  • Population has stabilized and we have a sustainable world and economy. Growth is not the big buzzword any longer, but quality of life is our objective. Economists use new metrics to measure quality of life and no longer base economic wellbeing entirely on GDP and other measures of growth.

  • Freedom of travel is a reality. People are free to travel between countries as long as they are law-abiding citizens without criminal records. Goods travel between countries freely so that products will be available to all.

  • We have converted to the metric system.
